Christmas Day events.

.

On Christmas Day we all got up early (kind of) and we launched into a breakfast brunch affair. Hailee and I made the pancakes, and every one else had a specific job. That way things were a lot easier to manage.

I'm thinking she likes pancakes..... usually eats like a trooper when we have them. Next time I'll give her a crack at the eggs.... so to speak.

Chris was in charge of the scrambled eggs, and we had sausage links, bacon, and toast in addition to the pancakes.

Peg has a really nice pancake form in the shape of a teddy bear. Hailee likes them, so I make sure to use it whenever I can.

Everyone got a few gifts and we had a good time trying to figure out Hailee's method of gift distribution.

These two seemed to be buds.

Yes, I actually got a gift or two. Too much reference to me in this post? Tough, it's my blog, I'll post what I want.

And Peggy got some new monkey face slippers. Eat your heart out, Liz.

Seems to me that when I was young, these items were referred to as 'breaking dishes'. At least that's what my sisters called them.

My stocking was in the shape of a moose head, and Hailee looked excited to deliver it.

Bryn must have behaved herself this year, as Santa brought her a stocking, too.

Hailee had to dig deep to get all the goodies out of this generously sized sock.

Balloons and hair. Always a good combo with kids around.

We all had a great time, and we remembered to get a few group photos. Since the celebrations have ended, Peg and I have just settled in and enjoyed our time off work. The weather has been a little milder, with a couple inches of snow today. It's going to be colder again, hope the wood pile holds out.....

What a nice collection of pictures for future reminiscing (sp?). I am so hungry for Swedish pancakes )I know Gene likes his type better). I am too lazy, I think, to make them. Maybe I will do it when some of the girls come over. So nice to enjoy your xmas thru the pictures.

Love, Lucy

I do really like the Swedish pancakes, just never got into making them. The others are much easier and I do like them almost as much. I remember taking the last of the thin pancakes and putting a nice amount of brown sugar on them, then a strip or two of bacon, roll them up and put in a baggy. Then you take them with you out into the winter woods and you have the best on-the-go snack you could imagine....

Nothing can beat Lucy's Swedish pancakes. Just butter. yum yum.

In our family, my mother made them too... but we put white sugar on them ... and then we rolled them up......we then sliced the roll into 1/2" slices and then we ate "snakes".. uncurling the pancakes, one bite at a time... I do have to agree with the both of you though.... they were magic... definitely a Gabrielsen favorite too.

thanks for the memory. :)

Breakfast looked great - and those teddy bear pancakes seemed extra tasty!!

By the way, what are "Swedish pancakes for those of us not fortunate enough to have them before??

Oh, for sure, the teddy bear shape makes them much tastier. That's my take, anyway. The Swedish pancakes are crepes (I think). They are made with a thinner batter, cooked on a hot griddle and they do not rise at all. I'm getting a little hungry right now! Once on the plate, they require a little butter and either brown sugar, powdered sugar, maple syrup or what ever you like on them. I prefered the powdered sugar, but if they are leftovers, then they require brown sugar and bacon on them.... Kristi, I would bet that if you asked your gramma Donna about them, she will know. She may even make some for you??

Swedish pancakes... hmmm in our house they were always just called "the thin pancakes", but only after I saw Lucy make them once did I realize that they were the same as moms. Grandma Donna may not recognize them as "Swedish pancakes", so I thought I had better mention her "name" for them. I know, it is a VERY creative name. :) It would be fun to gather over there some day and make them together...
