Just stuff.....

.

The snow has started.... it's also been quite cold up here! Highs in the teens. I don't mind winter too much, but it could at least get well into the 20's during the day.

It's always amazing how fast wood can dis-appear! As you can see, the snow on the roof of the boiler is not melting, so it must have good insulation inside. I like that.

By now, that first row of wood is about 1/3 gone. Hope the pile lasts all winter.

The house chimney is pouting. It has nothing to put forth and that's just fine with me.

On the other hand... or roof.... the lodge chimney shows that the weather is fine indoors.

I may have used this one before, but it is so good for demonstrating this anamorphic artform. This chalk drawing appears to show a 3-D globe with a little dude on top. But this is how it looks only from a specific vantage point. Below you see the same drawing from the right side and it is drawn flat on a sidewalk. The guy looks so small because of how far up the sidewalk he actually is.

So this is the basis for all the chalk drawing illusions by Julian Beever (and others). They are drawn flat, to be viewed from a specific spot to appear as 3-D objects. Cool.
Here is a link to an explanation of anamorphic art and you'll find some good links there.

At this point, I again run the risk of repeating myself. I'm including this link to a short story I came up with several years ago. I still like it, give it a look.

I gotta go, Carlo

Thanksgiving, phase 1

.

We went to Milwaukee on the Friday after Thanksgiving. We got into our room and then headed for Mag's new digs on the 6th floor of the Shorecrest. The apartment faces Lake Michigan, just up the bluff from the lakeshore.

Here's a good view to the South, overlooking the Port of Milwaukee in the background, and the marina in the foreground.

A little farther west and you can see some of the lakefront grounds and the Hone bridge in the backgound.

About straight out is one of the big breakwaters just to the north of the port.

And just to the north a bit you look out over a nice little neighborhood.

These two seem to hit it off really well.

I had not seen Cindy for quite a few years.

Franny getting a little help from Peggy.

Getting the table ready.

Final preparations for the Thanksgiving feast. It's smelling really good in here, I'm really hungry and I'm going to sample the food..... You will find more in the next post....

Thanksgiving, phase 2

.

O.K, here it is, the food part of Friday. A luscious spread of good food, lovingly prepared by (mainly) Margaret and Jenny, but everyone helped with the meal. Except me, as I was busy documenting the event.

Jenny made some bread, basically Lucy's molasses bread but with maple syrup in it. It was GREAT!!

The turkey was awesome, even though it did have stuffing in it.

It was a feast for the eyes, not just the taste buds.

Piera took orders for pie after the meal. Jenny did quite a bit of studying of the list, but I think it all worked out O.K....

The pie list included banana cream, chunkin piffon (with salt), regular pumpkin

and this apple crumble pie brought by Candice. Häagen-Dazs ice cream for that. Did you know that the name Häagen-Dazs is not some cool European name, but rather was completely made up by the U.S. maker of the stuff? I heard this on one of those Sunday morning quiz laugh fests on NPR.

Piera and Larsen delivered the pie and it all disappeared quickly.

After the meal was complete, the card sharks took ownership of the dining table for some hard core poker.
