The tree....

For you seldoms, there is another "new" post just below this.....

I needed fortifiers to sit down and write this post. It's a Point Amber Classic. Onlyhow, I made the inevitable decision to tackle a project that needs doing, don't want to do it. But I started tonight and now I'm just resigned to see it through. It's the tree at the Northeast corner, the old soft maple that has defined that portion of the yard since I can remember...

What a sight against the evening sky! But it is not to be for much longer.

It has a nasty lean to the South, directly at the deck and east side of the house. A walk around the tree with an eye to the top gives a startling view of the defects. I hate to take it down, but it looks like the top could go off at any time. I really don't want to have to rebuild the deck AND cut up the tree. So......

You can see through it near where it branches out!

So, I got the trimmer device out and started eliminating the lower limbs. It will be a job, all right, but now that I've started, it'll go OK.

I like all the pictures and see that you are using the birthday glass. The old tree really ;needed to go years ago.

so sad to see the tree go but it has been sick for a long time. kinda wish i had been there to mourn it and to give you some moral support. Isn't it weird how a tree can be such a focal point of one's life. Has always been a part of my life there and now a memory like so many others.
so long good tree. Thanks for taking her down and save a hunk for me. any kinda hunk will do.

Hey Yram, do you think that Johnny would want some of the "unique chunks" for making anything? Maybe once we get into the trunk, where it gets all "funky"? Let us know..if there is any special part/type you want.
It really will be sad to see it go. The top first fell off, the year before Gene and I started hanging around I think... going on 14 years now... yikes. Glad that it has stayed with us for this long. The look to the north sure will be barren, once it's gone.

Yeah, it kind of grim business, this tree cutting. I'm sure we'll see a younger version of it in some of the old photos that Lucy has.
